About the Organization

            Bhubaneswar, the Capital City of Odisha has rapidly grown up within a few years & presently the population has reached 15 lakhs. It has 7 Universities, 50 Arts, Science and Commerce Colleges, 3 Medical Colleges, 25 Management Colleges, 100 Engineering Schools & Colleges, 200  Oriya & English Medium Schools, 300 Coaching & Study Centres. In addition to the above, a number of Govt. Offices, Banks, PSUs, NGO & Private Sectors have also emerged to a healthy extent. Needless to say that in the last few years it has own a place among the top educational centers of India. Keeping in view  the requirement of books for students, teachers, researchers, general readers as well as libraries etc. the  Rajdhani Book Fair was set up in the Millenium Year - 2000 and now it has secured top position in Odisha.
            It is a registered organisation & it was formed by 8nos. of writers of Oriya Children’s literature. More than 400 stalls are set up in the fair. As this pre-winter period is very suitable, the students & booklovers  prefer to visit this fair with family & friends. Our past experience shows that every year the number of visitors is multiplying in galloping numbers. It is the only popular Book Fair of the state where more than 60,000 visitors visit the fair every day.
            During the period of Book fair, the committee invite the leading literary organisations of the state to conduct literary meetings, discussions, seminars,    symposiums, conferences etc. in the Auditorium of the Book fair. The eminent writers, publishers & intellectuals are invited to deliver their valuable speech. Some cultural groups are also invited to provide entertainment to the visitors.
            Every year, from the year 2005, the Book Fair Committee have been engaged in collecting the information about oriya publications published from the year 1802 & publishing a large volume about 700 pages, namely “ Oriya Pustak Prakashan Suchi”  which is a reference book for libraries, research scholars, students as well as      general readers. This book is available at a very nominal price i.e. Rs.50/- only.
            Every year, the Committee felicitate more than 10 eminent writers of Oriya literature. During last 9 years the committee has organised 90 literary  meetings & awarded103 writers alongwith  4 publishers who have outstanding performance in Oriya literature.

Born of rajdhani book fair

            In the month of January of the year,1999 the 1st Children’s Book Fair was organised by  Orissa Children Writers Academy at Jayadev Bhawan ( formerly Soochana Bhawan) ground for 8days under the leadership of Dr. Upendra Kumar Jena, President of the Academy. A number of  publishers publishing the children books participated in the fair. This fair became grand success & was appreciated by the children as well as general readers. This first endeavour encouraged the organisers to proceed for a general Book Fair . It was decided that the children books would be displayed on the front table of every publisher in the proposed Book Fair. Accordingly  a new committee was formed under the presidentship of Dr. Upendra Kumar Jena who was suggested to name the fair as RAJDHANI BOOK FAIR. The selected office bearers were Sri Ramesh Chandra Swain,Secretary, Sri Bidhu Bhusan Pattanayak, Convenor, Sri Kali Prasad Das, Coordinator, Sri Akul Chandra Nath, Member, Sri Bira Kishore Pradhan, Member, Sri Brahmananda Nayak, Member, Smt. Kamalini Mallick,Member.
            The Committee decided to lunch the 1st Book Fair at Exhibition Ground in the first week of December-2000. A formal invitation was sent to every publisher alongwith the 1st. Invitation to Lord Jagannath, Puri. A letter from the Temple Administration was received at the last moment where requested to allot a stall for the better interest of Lord Jagannath. The organisers inspired by the letter & a stall alloted in favour of Lord Jagannath  at the entrance of the fair.

            The Temple Administration irrected  a dummy of Srimandir with Arun Stamba & Hundi in front of the same.  From that year, the temple administration has been participating in the fair with Chaturdhha Murty i.e. SriJagannath, SriBalabhadra, SriSubhadra & SriSudarsan. Every year new vesas of the Lords are made to impress the devoties of Lord Jagannath.

the 13th rajdhani book fair 2012

             This year the 13th Rajdhani Book Fair-2012 shall be organised at Exhibition Ground Bhubaneswar for 12 days with effect from 01.12.2012 to 12.12.2012. Since the pre-winter period in Odisha is very suitable, the students and book lovers prefer to visit the fair during this period with their family and friends. Our past experience shows that every year the number of visitors is multiplying in galloping numbers. This is the only mega fair of the state where more that 1 lakh visitors visit every day.
